Dr. Patrick Heffer`s workshops on forecasting demand for fertiliser

International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) held workshops for analysts and professionals in the agricultural sector on forecasting demand for fertiliser in Moscow on 18 and 19 April 2013. The workshops were conducted by Dr. Patrick Heffer, Director of the IFA Agriculture Committee.

The event was organised within the framework of Uralkali and IFA`s cooperation programme, that aims at spreading of the expertise on potash market among the industry professionals.

During the seminars Dr. Patrick Heffer analysed the methodology of crop-based, expert-based fertiliser demand forecasting:

  • Why is the crop-based, expert-based forecast the preferred methodology?
  • The four stages of a crop-based, expert-based forecast
  • Practical recommendations for implementing the crop-based, expert-based forecast

For the professionals in the agricultural sector there was also a workshop on 5-year fertiliser demand forecasts for Russia:

  • Building the historical database
  • Developing the scenario for agriculture and fertiliser management
  • Developing the quantitative forecast
  • Validating the results
