Uralkali promotes children's road safety

16.02.2017

From 6-16 February, Uralkali organised the Be More Visible social campaign in Berezniki and Solikamsk. Uralkali, together with the traffic police, prepared 10,000 reflective keyrings, which can be hung on a school bag, backpack or jacket, for primary school pupils in both cities. Reflectors are a key piece of equipment for pedestrians, as they reduce the number of accidents on the roads.

During the campaign, Uralkali and the traffic police reminded the children about the need to respect road regulations, especially at night. The events were interactive and a flash mob was organised at the Childrens Centre for Scientific and Technical Creativity in Berezniki, where young traffic inspectors attend classes.

The young pedestrians received reflectors with Uralkalis logo as a useful gift.

Ruslan Ilyasov, Uralkali HR Director, commented:

Safety is a basic value of our company and forms the foundation of Uralkalis corporate culture. We understand that a culture of safety needs to be developed from a very early age. Road regulations are among the very first safety rules that a child learns. Our Be More Visible social campaign to distribute reflectors among primary school pupils from Berezniki and Solikamsk will not only prevent traffic accidents, but could also preserve the lives and health of children.

Stanislav Seleznev, Uralkali Health, Safety and Environment Director, commented:

Uralkali is a socially responsible company, and it is not only the safety of our employees that we care about. We are conducting the Be More Visible social campaign and providing pupils from Berezniki and Solikamsk with reflectors to prevent road accidents involving pedestrians. After all, children are the youngest and therefore the most vulnerable road users.

Reflective equipment increases the visibility of pedestrians on unlit roads, in cloudy and rainy weather, and, according to statistics, reduces the risk of their involvement in accidents by up to 85%.

Vladimir Polennikov, Head of the "BereznikovskyTraffic Police Department, commented:

The Berezniki state automobile inspectors pay special attention to the prevention of child road traffic injuries, because children are the most vulnerable people on the road. We are grateful to Uralkali for its participation in the Be More Visible social campaign. One way to protect young pedestrians in the dark is to encourage them to wear special reflective equipment on their clothes, enabling drivers to notice them and stop. Reflectors on childrens clothes will help to reduce the number of road accidents involving children significantly.
