Team Olympian took second place in streetball at the National mini-basketball festival in Anapa

Nearly a hundred young athletes, five teams from Berezniki and one team from Solikamsk took part in the National mini-basketball festival, held in Anapa from May 25 to June 9 in the health center Chernomorets. For two weeks participants competed in basketball tournaments, physical and technical training as well as in contests for captains and referees.

The team Olympian (Berezniki) made of 10-year-old boys entered the top ten basketball teams of Russia and won silver in streetball competitions.

Mikhail Presnyakov, project manager for the development of children and youth basketball in Berezniki and Solikamsk, OJSC Uralkali:

I think that the trip was successful. Our teams were worthy. Second place is a great incentive for the children to grow as athletes. In near future we plan to organize a streetball tournament in Berezniki and Solikamsk which will take place in August.

The trip to the National festival was sponsored by Uralkali in the framework of a project to support children and youth basketball. Its goal is advertising of basketball as a popular and accessible sport, as well as promotion of a healthy lifestyle among young people. Within five years on the basis of urban schools and children's sports facilities 75 basketball classes will be created, more than 10 sports halls will be repaired, new kits and equipment will be purchased. For the duration of the program it is planned to involve 1,600 children between 7 and 17 years in sports activities.
