Uralkali celebrates Miner’s Day

The employees of Uralkali’s underground complex have celebrated their main professional holiday -Miner’s Day.

Almost 4,500 miners work at Uralkali’s five mines. 133 combined complexes mine potash ore around the clock. In the last seven months of this year, 22.5 million tonnes of ore have been mined– and this effort has not gone unnoticed.

On the eve of the holiday, almost 550 of the best workers of the underground complex from Berezniki and Solikamsk attended a gala evening with the slogan “Going Forward”. After all, it is the miners who literally go forward since the process of potash fertiliser production begins with ore mining.

Uralkali’s CEO, Vladislav Baumgertner; Chief Engineer, Yevgeny Kotlyar; and Director of Production, Boris Serebrennikov, awarded the miners the highest professional and institutional prizes.

The title of “Honorary Miner” was awarded to five employees. 12 miners received the highest mining accolade – the first, second and third grades of the “Miner’s Glory” award. Among its recipients were the head of the mining site, Alexander Lubnin, and the driver of mining excavation machines, Vasiliy Zyablov. Another 18 employees were recognised by the Gratitude of the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

Vladislav Baumgertner, CEO of Uralkali, commented:

Mining work is the cornerstone of Uralkali’s activities, since ore mining is the start of the production process for fertiliser. Today, ore mining is growing, and we do not plan to stop at what we have achieved. For us, it is important to move forward and develop. And this is possible due to your work and your professionalism.

The mayors of Berezniki and Solikamsk, Sergey Dyakov and Sergey Devyatkov, congratulated the miners:

“The past, the present and the future prospects of Berezniki are inextricably linked with the successful operation of the Berezniki potash mines,” commented Sergey Dyakov. “Miner’s Day is a holiday for hard-working and energetic individuals. I am sure that those who entered the mining profession do not regret their chosen path.”

“The town of Solikamsk and mining go hand in hand,” noted Sergey Devyatkov in his congratulatory speech. “Thanks to the professionalism and responsibility of many generations of potash miners, Uralkaliholds a strong position in the global potash market.”

Kind words for the veteran miners, who embedded the glorious mining traditions within the company and passed on their mastery to younger generations, were met with a hall of loud applause.

The audience was treated to a musical performance by the famous composer and artist, Denis Maydanov.

Smoking in mines is prohibited.
Work at heights without wearing a safety harness is prohibited.
Work in electrical installations under voltage is prohibited.
It is forbidden to perform work and stay in the bottomhole zone during the operation of the mining machine.
Loading and unloading operations when people are in the danger zone are prohibited.
Working in underground mines with unsecured and/or unassembled roofing is prohibited.
It is forbidden to carry out repairs and maintenance of conveyors without disconnecting from energy sources, use of conveyors for transfer of people and goods (materials and/or equipment), crossing (either above or under) operating conveyors by employees are not allowed.
It is forbidden to carry out welding and flame work in underground mines and mine buildings without the necessary safety measures preventing fire.
