Uralkali Improves ESG Score in Annual S&P Global CSA

Uralkali (the Company), one of the world’s largest potash producers, further improved its position in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment ESG rating for 2021. This year, the Company received 65 points against 52 a year earlier, which is significantly higher than the chemical industry average of 30 points1. Uralkali’s position in the sector is also affirmed by its placement in the 89th percentile of the rating.

Uralkali improved its scores across all three ESG areas y-o-y:

  • The Environmental Dimension score increased by 11 points to 76 points;
  • The Social Dimension score increased by 15 points to 59 points;
  • The Governance Dimension score increased by 12 points to 61 points.

The even improvement across all three areas demonstrates the Company’s integrated development of ESG practices and consistent implementation of its ESG Strategy to 2025. 

The rating also noted the strengthening of the Company's positions in such areas as climate change, human rights and corporate governance practices, including issues related to independent members and gender balance of the Board of Directors.

Over the past year, the Company has put a lot of work into all major areas of sustainable development, as evidenced by the strong results in the S&P Global rating.

We are successfully implementing our ESG Strategy and are working on the Company's Climate Strategy, which we plan to publish by the end of 2021. In our opinion, a strategic approach to ESG is an integral part of effective business development.

The S&P Global CSA ESG rating is seen as one of the most well-established and highly regarded corporate sustainability assessments among the global investor community. Smoking in mines is prohibited.
Work at heights without wearing a safety harness is prohibited.
Work in electrical installations under voltage is prohibited.
It is forbidden to perform work and stay in the bottomhole zone during the operation of the mining machine.
Loading and unloading operations when people are in the danger zone are prohibited.
Working in underground mines with unsecured and/or unassembled roofing is prohibited.
It is forbidden to carry out repairs and maintenance of conveyors without disconnecting from energy sources, use of conveyors for transfer of people and goods (materials and/or equipment), crossing (either above or under) operating conveyors by employees are not allowed.
It is forbidden to carry out welding and flame work in underground mines and mine buildings without the necessary safety measures preventing fire.
