Uralkali holds Contest of Professions

25.05.2012
On the eve of Chemists’ Day at Uralkali, the Company held its traditional Professional Skills Contest for plant employees. Operators from seven processing plants in Berezniki and Solikamsk took part in the contest. The main aims of the contest are to highlight the prestige of the various professions, to provide a platform for skills exchange, and to stimulate employees in the pursuit of professional development.

Whereas in previous years participants competed in individual events, this year’s competition included only team events. The contest consisted of three parts. A practical stage required teams to demonstrate knowledge and methods of compliance with safety requirements in the workplace. A theoretical stage required teams to answer questions relating to safety, the technological process and the functioning of equipment. A creative stage challenged teams to demonstrate their talents in the format of popular television programmes, whereby they were tasked with showing how factory workers contribute to the strengthening of Uralkali’s leading position in the global market. Teams were able to contest the various categories to become “the best team in the practical stage”, “the best team in the theoretical stage”, “the best team in the creative stage” and “the best team of technologists”.

The practical stage was won by the Berezniki-4 Plant team; the theoretical stage by the Solikamsk-2 Plant team; the creative stage by the Berezniki-2 Plant team; and the best team of technologists by the Solikamsk-3 Plant.

Tatiana Badrutdinova, a plant operator from Solikamsk-2 who was a team captain, believes that such competitions are an excellent way to motivate employees to strive for professional growth. She commented: “We prepared thoroughly, researched technical material, practised the technological processes, planned for various scenarios, and rehearsed the performance.”

Alena Ragytskaya, a conveyor operator at Berezniki-4 Plant and a participant in the creative stage, is keen to participate in the theoretical and practical stages of next year’s competition. She remarked: “Representing your plant at the company level is a great honour because only the best workers take part. The winners have something to be proud of, while the others have something to strive for next time, so it serves a good purpose. Next year’s Contest will again attract the best of the best at Uralkali.”
