Banana workshop India

A banana workshop was organised by the department of Horticulture at Bihar Agriculture University (BAU), Bhagalpur, during the visit of Neeraj Kumar Awasthi, International Potash Instite (IPI) Coordinator and Uralkaliís Agronomist, and Hillel Magen, Director of IPI.

There were over 100 participants at the day-long workshop, which was part of a banana project of IPI at BAU. These included scientists of BAU, Principals of Associated UG colleges as well asprogressive banana growers from Bihar state. Experts addressed a number of issues related to the cultivation of the banana crop.

Hillel Magen spoke about the role of potash in horticultural crops, while Neeraj Awasthi covered topics about IPI and its activities in India.Dr. Feza Ahmad, PI of the IPI project, highlighted the scenario of banana cultivation in Bihar and the importance of nutrient management to improve the yield and quality of bananas. Dr. Anshuman Kohali, theCo-PI and a soil scientist, talked about the role and importance of potash in banana cultivation. This workshop was also chaired by Dr. D Roy, the Dean of Agriculture; Professor Birendra Kumar, the Dean of Post Graduate Studies; Dr. Ravi Gopal Singh, the Director of Research; and Dr. V.B. Patel, HOD Horticulture at BAU, Bhagalpur. The presentations were followed by a Q&A session.

At the end of the workshop, the participants received certificates of participation.

Smoking in mines is prohibited.
Work at heights without wearing a safety harness is prohibited.
Work in electrical installations under voltage is prohibited.
It is forbidden to perform work and stay in the bottomhole zone during the operation of the mining machine.
Loading and unloading operations when people are in the danger zone are prohibited.
Working in underground mines with unsecured and/or unassembled roofing is prohibited.
It is forbidden to carry out repairs and maintenance of conveyors without disconnecting from energy sources, use of conveyors for transfer of people and goods (materials and/or equipment), crossing (either above or under) operating conveyors by employees are not allowed.
It is forbidden to carry out welding and flame work in underground mines and mine buildings without the necessary safety measures preventing fire.
